South Africa’s Sprint Sensation Akani Simbine showed he means business ahead of the World Championships at the opening IAAF Diamond League meeting in Doha on Friday night.

Following the recent successes of 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk, he took gold for South Africa and became the first South African male to win gold at a Diamond League meeting.

The win was a special one is it included victories over former World Record Holder Asafa Powell as well as the Big Mouth Yank, Justin Gatlin.

Simbine won in 100m sprint in a time of 9.99 seconds which is far slower than his best but as they say, a win is a win especially in terms of the competitor level at the event.

Caster Semenya exclaimed  herself as world leader by winning Gold in a season’s best time by over 4 seconds in the women’s 800m in a time of 1 min, 56.61 seconds.

The next Diamond League meeting takes place in Shanghai, China on 13 May.
