The Tuks 7’s women are back in Dubai and making it count in Pool A of the 2017 Dubai 7’s!

I spoke to SA Touch Rugby and 7’s star Libbie Janse van Rensburg last evening to hear how things went for the star studded Delta Drone Tuks Women on day one of the International Women Invitation division of the 2017 Dubai 7’s Tournament.

GAME 1

The first game was against the Tabusoro Angels Inter wich the Pretoria ladies disrespected by 31 – 0! The Angels are a team consisting of 5 nationalities – Norwegian, Swedish, Ugandan, Fijian and Irish.

These two teams met before in Germany and the results were pretty similar therefore Tuks ladies were pretty confident ahead of the game.

The final score was Delta Drone Tuks Ladies 31 vs 0 Tabusoro Angels

GAME 2

In the second ficture the Pretoria based Ladies came up against a tough Randwick Magic side from Australia. Tuks held on to a win but struggled through out the match with their defense and communication was also a bit of a challenge as the Aussies kept disrupting the South Africans best efforts to get organised.

The final score was Delta Drone Tuks Ladies 17 vs 15 Randwick Magic

GAME 3

The final game of day one was played in the main stadium on pitch 1 and although the crowd was pretty small the Tuks ladies drew from the energy of this amazing world class 7’s stadium!

The first points for the Delta Drone Tuks ladies came in the first minute of the match and their defense was on point this time. Although strong resistance was anticipated by Tuks, the Royals were unable to pull back the lead and Tuks ended up with a great win against one of the top rated teams in the competition.

The final score was The Royals 6 vs 17 Delta Drone Tuks Ladies

Two players who made their mark on the opening day was Libbie Janse van Rensburg and Sanlie van den Brink who bith scored 4 tries a piece.

The Delta Drone Tuks Ladies will be playing in the Quarter Finals against the team of Belgium on Friday.
